There was all kinds of life happening around the Front Porch and the M Woods this morning. Gray squirrels, red squirrels, chipmunks, mourning doves, sparrows, chickadees, titmouses (or is that titmice? Okay, titmice didn't get the red squiggle of doom) red breasted nuthatches and their larger cousins, the white breasted nuthatches, robins, crows, hairy woodpeckers (or were they downy?) and one pileated woodpecker, who managed to avoid Camera completely. There might have been more visitors. I can't be sure. A possible cedar waxwing. Also a catbird and a blue jay that would have been easy to identify if they had spoke up just once. There's no mistaking their calls. Lots of wonderful life!! I took 182 pictures. Here is a prime example of the majority of them-
And one more, just to prove my skills. The skills I promised I wouldn't bring up any more. But today was especially vexatious with Camera-
Now for a couple of the 24 shots out of 182 that I didn't instantly delete-
Second morning in a row these Nuthatches have visited. There's two of them, but they visited the bird bath one at a time for a drink.
This poor Gray picked a seriously bad spot to store his food. He no sooner left when a chipmunk came in and helped himself.
I counted no less than 6 Chipmunks out and about in the M Woods. One of them was busy collecting leaves for a nest somewhere. This one was stuffing his cheeks with the food Gray was hiding for winter food storage.
This particular Chippy wasn't foraging for food. He was too busy trying, unsuccessfully, to run all the other chipmunks out of his territory, while keeping an eye on me.
Three Robins, who also visited yesterday, were helping themselves to the berries on the tree. I think the tree is a hawthorn, but I'm not positive about that.
This is the best evidence of the woodpecker's visit. A Hairy, probably, but could have been a Downy.
Possibly a Catbird. Maybe?
Titmouse?
Definitely one of the pair of Mourning Doves.
I don't know. One of the many Sparrows, maybe.
And last but not least, Camera took a photo of this old bird-
Completely unexpected selfy. Camera has been sneaky that way. Just this morning, I think I deleted at least 40 unintended pictures.
My morning has been an awesome one!! I hope yours has been awesome as well!!
Compagni di viaggio, ti amo!
:)
Hang on... It occured to me that I forgot the weather report. Wouldn't be a proper FPR if it didn't include a weather reference. At 7 am, when I went out, it was 52° with 93% humidity, 3 mph winds and... what?... WHAT!? FAIR SKIES!?
LIARS!
The sun didn't put in an appearance once. NOT ONCE! Not the entire 2 hours I was out there!
LIARS!
:)
Currently the weather is 61° with 75% humidity, 8 mph winds and overcast skies. I guess the Wee-Gee's were asleep at 7am this morning.
Humphf
Oooo... possible rain today. Wait a sec. The Sun just now, just this second, peeked out from the clouds and came through my window.
I'm gonna nuke my cold coffee and drink it now.
A good one to ya, Travelers!
