The M Woods were dark and eerie this morning. The 'eerie' part set in the second I opened the Front Porch door. Something was howling in the trees. I only heard it for a second. It stopped when I stepped out on the Porch, so I didn't hear it long enough to identify it. There were upset Crows, Mourning Doves, Chippys, Squirrels, Bluejays and Sparrows all around the house. Then I heard something crash thru the Woods into the backyard. I didn't smell skunk, so maybe a cat, an opossum, racoon or a porcupine perhaps. Maybe a fisher. I've never seen a porcupine or a fisher in the area, but I suppose it's possible. It was too dark for me to see anything. All I know is my Wiggins Meter went off. Enuf to keep me hovering by the front door. Funny how once you start to feel spooked the feeling persists. And feeling spooked turns even the mundane into life threatening situations. After the birds and animals calmed down, it got quiet. That's when I heard a thump followed by a rapid thud thud thud. Wiggins meter went up a notch. Goosebumps are at the ready, waiting for the signal to erupt. Then a slight clanging noise. Another notch up. What sounded like feet crunching leaves. Then this horrible scrapping noise!!! And it happens! Horripilliated goosebumpily eruptus!! The scrapping noise kept getting louder and louder! W meter pinging hard now! My goosebumpily hand is fumbling for the door knob when, throwing a last look over my shoulder, I see a man across the street, one house over, get on his bike and ride off. ... A Bike Rider... Seriously!? Oh for Cobb's sake. Another waste of perfectly good adrenaline. And my Wiggins Meter is refusing orders to reset. Blasted thing. What's the weather like? My morning was rudely interrupted by life going on elsewhere that I forgot to check the weather. 52°, calm and overcast. No rain yet. Would have been a great Saturday walk but my feet are refusing to obey. Hey!! It's October Oneth!! May you have a great October, my fellow Travelers. And may your Wiggins Meter always serve you well!
